For a while now I’ve been reviewing the Grenade supplement range. Now though im going shifting focus on another popular British supplement brand, Reflex Nutrition. This post in particular is going to be a Reflex Muscle Bomb Review.
Reflex Nutrition is one of the biggest supplement companies in the UK. Since being established in 1996, Reflex Nutrition still stand by to their original goal, to create high quality supplements.
Using state of the art in-house technologies, Reflex Nutrition are able to ensure high quality and batch tested supplements. They go even further by sending random samples off to 3rd party government approved lab testing companies, and have never received negative feedback!
With 100% satisfaction guaranteed there is no reason not to go to Reflex Nutrition for your supplement needs. With quality testing like this, i was interested in trying out some of their supplements, especially the Reflex pre workout. Should you spend your money and try it for yourself though? Read my entire Reflex Muscle Bomb Review to find out!
Overview
- Available in caffeine & caffeine free varieties. I am reviewing the caffeine free Muscle Bomb Pre Workout.
- Contains pump enhancing ingreidents
- Contains bcaa’s to aid in recovery and endurance during training
- Available in 2 flavours
Reflex Muscle Bomb is the Reflex Pre Workout.
The ingredients within Muscle Bomb are very appealing, because there isn’t a huge ingredient list which means that the ingredients Reflex have included are in really… really high doses!
Reflex have covered a few bases with Muscle Bomb – recovery (from iBCAAs) to muscle pump (Citrulline Malate) to energy and endurance from Beta-Alanine, Betaine and L-Carnitine Tartrate.
Most pre workouts that attempt this approach fail due to low dosages but that definitely isn’t the case with Muscle Bomb. With 7g of instantised branched chain amino acids (iBCAAs) you will get a higher dose in a single serving of Muscle Bomb than most stand-alone BCAA supplements! If you’re wondering how iBCAA’s differ to regular Branched Chain Amino Acids, then check out our My Protein iBCAA Review.
Also I’ve never seen a dose of Citrulline Malate as high as 8g seriously most pre-workout supplements have a dose of around 3-4g at best. Im no expert, but im not sure if 8g would be beneficial, or if there becomes a point of diminishing returns.
Beta Alanine is dosed highly enough that at 2 scoops you get a full days worth (3.2g) of this super supplement, again this could easily replace a standalone beta alanine supplement!
Muscle Bomb comes in 2 different varieties – with and without caffeine. For this review, i’ve used the caffeine free version. You can choose to take advantage of the performance boosting ingredients without having a high caffeine dose if you prefer.
I also use the the caffeine free Muscle Bomb on rest days, as the its a supplement that aids in recovery. Very beneficial if taken daily.
Reflex Muscle Bomb Ingredients
Key Ingredients:
iBCAA 7,000mg
Citruline malate 8,000mg
Beta-alanine 3,200mg
L-Carnitine tartrate 2,000mg
Betaine 2,500mg
The market is now flooded with pre workout supplements. Many of which hide behind a proprietary blend. This is one of the biggest supplement scams going.
Any sports supplement which lists a proprietary blend does not tell you the amount of each active ingredient. This makes it impossible for us, as customers, to be able to make an informed choice between supplements with scientifically proven dosages on all key ingredients.
The other significant issue is that nearly all pre-workout products are loaded with caffeine which can disguise a very poor formulation. Caffeine on its own is a powerful ergogenic aid and it’s inexpensive, so it’s normally at the top of the list for most supplement companies to use.
Muscle Bomb from Reflex lists its entire ingredients list & quantities however. Obviously, this is a good thing.
Here’s the kicker that really puts Muscle Bomb into a league of its own, its contains a truly HUGE 25,400mg of active ingredients per 2 scoops (30g):
Key ingredients No.1, 2 & 3 – iBCAA 7,000mg
The 3 branched chain amino acids, L-leucine, isoleucine and valine, all micronized and instant mixing, in the most proven 2:1:1 ratio, they are arguably the most important amino acids an athlete can take. Each double serving contains 7,000mg which is more than the dosage used in a double blind scientific study that demonstrates the anabolic activity of BCAAs during exercise.
Key ingredient No.4 – Citrulline Malate 8,000mg
Citrulline malate is one of the best pre-workout supplements for great pumps, delaying fatigue and pushing more reps. Our citrulline malate is in a 2:1 ratio of the amino acid citrulline and malic acid. Although highly popular many supplements only contain a couple of grams at best, science says much more is needed; in fact you need 400%-800% more than most products provide. Muscle Bomb delivers that dose, its 8,000mg per double serving.
Key Ingredient No.5 – Beta-Alanine 3,200mg
Increase muscle carnosine levels with beta-alanine, increase endurance and stamina with proven doses. Scientific studies prove that 3,200mg per day significantly increases carnosine levels in muscle.
Key ingredient No.6 – L-Carnitine Tartrate 2,000mg
Another great addition to any pre-workout regime. Carnitine is used by the body to effectively use fat for energy. However scientific studies show it has other significant actions for the athlete, a mega dose of L-carnitine tartrate restores muscles after training and increases the number of testosterone receptors in muscle.
And last but not least! Key Ingredient No.7 – Betaine (trimethylglycine) 2,500mg
Another one of the best sports nutrition supplements that has recently become the focus of more scientific studies because of its ability to build lean mass. It shouldn’t come as surprise by now to hear that the double dosages used are significant, often up to 500% more than the doses often found in other pre-workout products. Muscle Bomb once again delivers by supplying 2,500mg, the very same daily dose used in the study listed below. That’s why you will find a mega dose of betaine anhydrous 2,500mg.

So as you can see from the ingredients list that Muscle Bomb is a fully loaded pre workout with just the ingredients you need for a pumped and focused workout.
These are all based on the single serving sizes. I’ll talk more about in the effectiveness section of this review, i found I had to double up.
Muscle Bomb Caffeine vs Caffeine Free Ingredients

Taste
It’s only available in 2 flavours I had the fruit punch flavour which is always the safest bet to go for and the other flavour is Black Cherry.
Taste wise, it was ok. Nothing to write home about. It certainly wasn’t ‘bad’, but its not something i could drink gallons of (especially with the potency of the ingredients!)
Effectiveness
As I mentioned earlier this comes in 2 versions which is why I had to try it let alone the fantastic ingredient profile. It just shows that you don’t actually need caffeine to get that great focus, n.o pump
I’ve actually replaced my current pre & intra workout branch chain supplements because of the 7 grams of iBcaa in Muscle Bomb. I think anymore would just be over kill.
It also lets me save money on those supplements to.
Reflex Nutrition recommends this as 40 servings. However in reality, to get the full nutritional profile, you’ll need to double up on each serving. Effectively giving you 20 servings.
I did try just a ‘single dose’ twice, however I felt the need to double up. This was the sweet spot and provided me everything I needed. I’d even use this on rest days for the ibcaa and other amino acids, to aid with my recovery. Something I wouldn’t do with the caffeine packed Muscle Bomb.
I would be interested to see how much more ‘alert’ the caffeine version makes me, and if it would positively effect my workout. For now however, im happy sticking with the caffeine free version of Muscle Bomb.
Price:
I ordered mine from Cardiff Sports Nutrition, they have it for £36.95 but don’t forget you can always use my 5% discount code ANDRO5 off any and every order.
When doubling up the serving sizes, it does make it a bit pricey, however you have to consider the inclusion of branch chains in the product. So the price is kind of offset by the savings you make from not having to use a stand alone bcaa product.
A cheaper pre-workout alternative would be Raze. This is a pre-workout supplement from The Protein Works. You can read the Raze Pre-Workout Review for more information, and for a closer look at the ingredients.
Verdict
Reflex Nutrition Muscle Bomb, caffeine free version, is a pre workout supplement, that i’ve been very happy using.
It has provided me with an enhanced pump when lifting, and the branch chains allow for better and faster recovery. The single serving dosage on the pack is a bit misleading, in my opinion, claiming to have 40 servings, when in reality to get the full effect you need to double up, making it 20 servings.
This does drive the price up somewhat, and doesn’t exactly make it a ‘budget supplement’.
If you are on a budget, i would shop around for something like the aforementioned Raze Pre Workout, or something from the cheap supplement retailers online.
Heck you could even buy the ingredients individually and make your own cheap ass pre-workout.
(Note: This is a ‘fiddley’ process and if you haven’t researched what each supplement does, and why you would need it, then id just stick with buying a regular pre workout)
However if money isn’t a concern, then this is definitely something id recommend. While it might not be the most affordable, it does work.
If you’re like me and believe in the old adage “you pay for what you get” then you won’t be disappointed with Muscle Bomb.
Take Away Points
- Provided me with enhanced pumps during training
- Gave me a good, clean sense of energy, during workout session
- Did not suffer a crash or come down later in the day
- Taste was ok, but nothing special
- You really need to take 2 scoops, as opposed to the recommended 1
- I found the caffeine free version to provide me more than enough energy, and I was able to use it on training days to aid in recovery
