Reflex Instant Whey Pro Review

reflex instant whey reviewWe all know this time of the month. It comes around regularly.

We get nervous, it is always in the back of our minds, and we know that we are facing one of the toughest challenges. Of course I am talking about buying new protein powder.

What were you thinking…? (Women can relate)

Buying new protein powder, for me, is quite a big decision. If it is for you, then I hope my Reflex Instant Whey Pro Review can help you out.

Summary

For the past couple of months I have been using Reflex Instant Whey Pro Chocolate, from Reflex Nutrition. The same provider of Reflex Muscle Bombs. In case you don’t want to read all the details [and my rambling], here is my reflex instant whey review in a nutshell.

  • Good protein with decent macros
  • Mellow taste (stay away if you an extreme sweet tooth)
  • Mixes well
  • Awesome for protein baking
  • Value for money

Overview – Reflex Instant Whey Pro Review

First off, it is not cheap. I mean sure, the protein discount codes on this site help. But still, supplements aren’t always cheap!

Secondly, you are stuck with it for a while. I usually get the 2kg tubs, since they are cheaper and better value for money. They then last me for a good 3-4 month. Well, they used to!

After introducing IIFYM into my life and making sure I am hitting my proteins, consumption might have increased. If you are like me and like to mix your protein into at least two daily meals [usually oatmeal and greek yogurt], you would agree that the choice of the right powder is crucial.

Otherwise your breakfast is ruined. And we wouldn’t want that.

Reflex Instant Whey Pro

This reflex instant whey review is intended to hopefully make your next protein powder buying decision a little easier.

Even though we all know that we have to try things, no matter what other people say [“Oh no, this protein bar tastes awful.” — “Really?! Let me try it!”].

Now let’s start the fun part. Macros.

Criteria #1: Macros and Ingredients

When it comes to ingredients, most protein powders are the same for me: they all have ingredients that [a] I do not know and [b] I cannot pronounce.

In that sense Reflex is the same. However, doing some research, it seems like they did a pretty good job at getting high quality protein, namely the native whey isolate.

Furthermore, they included four different types of friendly bacteria that provide all kinds of health benefits. I am sorry that I cannot be much more of a help here – in general I try to get all my protein from ‘normal’ food – but who wants to eat chicken all day?!

However, from what I have read I can tell you that it is generally agreed upon that Reflex Nutrition did a very good job on finding high quality ingredients. But what about the macros?

Reflex Instant Whey Pro Nutrition Facts

One serving is about two scoops, or 25g of protein powder. This adds up to 97cal / 1.6C / 1.1F / 20P.

I would say that is a pretty decent carb-to-protein ratio. The low calorie content might also be appealing to females trying to lose weight or the guys out there on a cut [my thoughts are with you].

Standing alone I would conclude that Reflex is definitely macro-friendly, but lets compare it to some other major brands. To make a comparison, I chose the base of 25g as a serving size, and converted all macros to this base line. The prices are taken from bodybuilding.com [including sales – but even without sales, the ratio stays the same].

Reflex Instant Whey vs Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard vs Cellucor

reflex instant whey vs optimum nutrition

The comparison shows that Reflex can be placed in the good middle field. Calorie-wise it is higher than its competitors, but it clearly out-performs Cellucor in the rest of the macros, and is overall the best-priced powder [even thought it is really not by much]. In that sense, you get lots of bang/protein for your buck.

I believe it is safe to conclude that Reflex Whey Isolate does reasonably well when it comes to ingredients and macros. The company has a very good reputation for high quality ingredients, and seems to price it’s products fairly. I will give Reflex 8/10 for ingredients and macros, because [a] it is not as good as ON and [b] because if purchased at full price it can leave a huge whole in your pocket.

Criteria #2: Taste and Texture

Reflex Instant Whey Protein powderWhether you add your protein powder to your foods or have it as a shake – you want it to taste good. You don’t want to have to hold your nose every time you take a sip, and have to chuck a glass of water after consuming your protein shake.

You don’t have to spend a fortune to get a good tasting protein powder. This was made clear in the impact whey review from the myprotein supplements review on this site.

Unfortunately, this is where Reflex seems to disappoint. I remember my first sip – the surprise that hit me, followed my disappointment. It was really quite off-putting, and I was semi-upset to have purchased such a large quantity.

The protein did not taste like chocolate at all, and left a weird feeling on my tongue. However, I have to admit that I got very used to the taste after 2 or 3 shakes, and now I actually learned to appreciate its mellowness.

If you are looking for a product that hits the sweet spot and curbs your cravings for the day – Reflex is not your best option. If you do not want to be overpowered by the taste of artificial sweetener, go with Reflex.

Taste is really a question of…taste. Personal preference. Looking at reviews online, however, it seems that the majority of people are not exactly fans of Reflex’s taste, and prefer more intense flavouring.

Texture wise, Reflex is everything you’re wanting in a protein powder. It mixes well, with water and milk, and is easy to drink. Overall, i would give it 5/10, because I believe that not everyone who drinks Reflex will be as accepting of the flavour as I am.

Criteria #3: Use

Depending on the numbness of your taste buds [are you used to sugar, or are you like me where your tongue goes into traumatic shock after trying MyProtein peanut butter], you can use Reflex Protein accordingly.

Because I don’t enjoy the overpowering taste of artificial sweetener, I really enjoyed it as a post-workout shake mixed with water. Furthermore, it made for a great addition to my oats and baking items [such as the protein doughnuts I am devouring in the photo], as it does not take away from the original flavours, but adds just the right amount of sweetness.

So if you do not mind the taste, Reflex Whey Isolate can be used for anything and everything. Well, anything you would want to use protein powder for. Therefore, a big 9/10 for use [one point was again deducted for the taste factor].

Reflex Instant Whey Pro Review

Reflex Whey Instant Whey Pro – Yay or Nay?

After completing this Reflex Whey Instant Whey Pro Review, it comes in at 22/30. Not too shabby.

I don’t think that Reflex has lived up to the standard of the ON Whey I used before. However, it was definitely the better priced option.

For people on a budget [who do not have a sweet tooth] that are looking for an affordable protein substitute [on sale], there is potential here for you to at least give it ago. It makes a change from the bulk suppliers you may have tried in the past, such as Gonutritions’ Go Whey or The Protein Works whey 80.

However, if you are “all about that taste, ‘bout that taste, ‘bout that taste” then you might be willing to pay the extra and get a more flavorful powder.
