Summary:

If you love ice cream, but hate the sugars & fats, then WheyHey is for you. Each serving packs 22g of protein, and just 13g of carbs and 4g of fat. Sugar Free, Gluten Free - The perfect guilt free treat!

I decided to do a WheyHey Ice Cream Review following BodyPower, after my fianceé tried their Protein Ice Cream. For anyone trying to lose fat, the most difficult thing is controlling what we put in our mouth (that’s what she said). Sticking to a ‘clean’ diet is easy for a few days, perhaps even a few weeks. But if you’re favourite food is ice cream, and you’re trying to lose weight… you’re in for a bad time!

WheyHey Snapshot

  • 22grams of protein per pot – the same as a small chicken breast.
  • 168kcal in a 150ml tub
  • Gluten & Trans Fat Free
  • Flavours include strawberry, chocolate & vanilla

Whether you follow IIFYM or diet eating ‘clean foods’, common sense dictates that a sugar, and often fat-laden, conventional ice cream will not do you any favours in trying to lose weight. You may not have the willpower to restrict yourself to a calorie controlled portion, without binging on the entire tub. Perhaps you do have the willpower, but prefer to go without, and pick more filling foods that fall into your macro requirements. Thankfully dieters, and those looking for a quick fix of protein have a new alternative. A Protein Ice Cream from WheyHey.

How does WheyHey Ice Cream stack up to conventional Ice cream, and does WheyHey Ice Cream Nutrition offer that right macro’s to include it in your diet? I’ll give you my thoughts in this WheyHey Ice Cream Review.

WheyHey Ice Cream a-Hoy!

WheyHey Protein Ice Cream ReviewWheyHey Ice Cream, to put it simple, is a high protein ice cream from WheyHey. It does not contain gluten. It’s sugar free, and offers 22 grams of protein per tub. This 22grams of protein isn’t a poor quality protein source either. The protein used in WheyHey is whey protein isolate.

Whey Protein Isolate contains less fat, fewer carbs and a smaller amount of lactose than whey protein concentrate. Each tub is packed with 22 grams of whey protein, more than a regular protein shake serving.

WheyHey Protein Ice Cream comes in 3 flavours, of the neopolitan variety. We have the cookie-cutter round up of:

  • Strawberry
  • Vanilla
  • Chocolate

Nothing too exciting, and im sure that the brand will expand its flavourings in the future. Im not a huge ice cream man (im not an ice cream man at all, i’ve never driven an ice cream van damn it), but I would have liked to see mint choc chip, or a cookie dough flavour. That being said, strawberry, chocolate and vanilla are fail safes. Of the 3, everyone will love at least one of these flavours.

Unlike some Protein Snacks that I’ve taste tested, or some of the supplements I’ve reviewed for Cheap Protein Discount Codes, WheyHey doesn’t come off as a second rate version of the ‘real deal’. Likewise, its nutritional value is good enough to be used as part of a diet. Often protein snacks will have a high calorie content, which may not make them ideal for someone looking to lose weight (albeit, they’re great for someone looking to bulk up or gain mass).

WheyHey Protein Ice Cream, in my opinion can be enjoyed as those looking to lose weight, add muscle, or anyone just looking for a healthier snack. To prove my point, lets take a closer look at the ingredients and  nutritional value of WheyHey Ice Cream.

WheyHey Ice Cream Nutrition

The nutritional value of WheyHey differs slightly depending upon which flavour you pick. If picking between strawberry, chocolate and vanilla is as difficult as picking between Charmander, Squirtle or Bulbasaur, this WheyHey nutritional break down can hopefully help you.WheyHey Ice Cream Nutrition

For each 100ml of Ice Cream, the WheyHey Ice Cream Nutrition, averages around 118-125 calories. As you can see, the protein content is 15 grams, with carbs being just 5 grabs, 4 of which are fiborous. For an ice cream, fat is extremely low at just 4.5 grams. Now the tubs I’ve tried are all 150ml. These are the perfect size in my opinion.

So the nutritionals you see here, simply multiply by 1.5 and that gives you the total for a tub. Now I don’t care if you’re bulking, cutting, male, female, or a cross between the 2. A 150ml is the perfect size. Sure you could half this with your partner. You could eat half and save half for later. BUT… why the hell would you? For me 1 tub is 1 serving. The nutritional profile backs this up to, as a 22g gram serving makes for a perfect snack between meals.

Now, lets take a close look at the ingredients used in WheyHey’s Protein Ice Cream. These ingredients are the pretty much the same, regardless of which flavour you pick. First up is Whey Protein Isolate, which we’ve already covered. The remaining ingredients are;

  • Xylitol – This is a natural alternative to sugar. The good thing is, it also has several health benefits. This ingredient can actually help prevent tooth decay, unlike sucrose which is most commonly used in ice creams.
  • Non-Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil – This if free from trans fats and is the healthier option.
  • Skimmed Milk Powder – It doesn’t contain a juge amount, but some of the benefits of milk powder are that it is fortified with Vitamin A & D.
  • Glycerin – This is used to bind water and and oil.
  • Guar Gum, Xanthan Gum, Locust Bean Gum – All derived naturally. These ingredients help thicken the consistency. I actually use Xanthan Gum on its own to help add volume to some of my foods such as porridge, or to help make my shakes gloopy when making a smoothie

The remaining ingredients are individual to each flavour, and do just that. Add flavour to each.

As you can see, there is nothing ‘bad’ or unhealthy that goes into WheyHey. It’s not a cheap cash in to try and stick ‘protein’ in front of a unhealthy food. WheyHey Protein Ice Cream is a genuine healthier option. Here is a little comparison of the nutritional information compared to a tub of Ben & Jerrys. Of course taste is subjective (although I cover what I thought of the taste in the video, and down below).

WheyHey Vs Ben And Jerrys

So from a pure nutritional angle, this Protein Ice Cream smashes its competition. For anyone looking for a high protein ice cream, WheyHey delivers. HOWEVER! Just because a food is healthy does not mean it tastes nice. There would be little point in eating WheyHey, an in cream, if it tasted like something that should be sitting in the toilet. So just how does WheyHey taste?

Taste Test

The big question I asked my fiance before I tried this protein ice cream was, “does it taste like normal ice cream“. After trying it for myself, I can answer that for all of you wondering the same thing.WheyHey Ice Cream Review

Yes. End of review.

It does. I’ve spoken about this before, but some times protein snacks nail an awesome taste. Sometimes they don’t. For a treat like ice cream, i expected this to fall in the latter. Especially considering how good of a nutritional profile it has. WheyHey actually tastes like a normal ice cream though. The consistency and texture is just like that of a normal ice cream. I am no ice cream connoisseur. But I do know you can get soft scoop, which, is softer than ‘regular’ scoop? Well WheyHey has a firmer consistency. The plastic spoon it comes with was as useful as a squat rack at planet fitness. Once its in your mouth though, its got a creamy, authentic ice cream feel.

I’ve tried all 3 flavours, but the strawberry was my favourite. The chocolate one, I personally would not buy. That being said, Im not a huge fan of chocolate flavoured things if they aren’t actually chocolate.  So this comes down to my palette. The strawberry and vanilla both tasted awesome though. The flavour wasn’t too sweet, and because of the awesome ingredients used, it did not taste artifical.

My fiance loved it, and I gave a tub to each of my parents. My Dad, who doesn’t really have a sweet tooth thought it was ok, but said he wouldn’t fancy another one (although I bet he’d eat it if I gave him it). My Mam mentioned about how creamy it was. She had the strawberry flavour and said she would have more. In typical non-nutritional clued up people asked “is this healthy for me”. Which leads me to my next point.

A tub of this on a warm My Protein Protein Brownie would be seriously dangerous!

A Weight Loss Ice Cream?

Now this doesn’t just apply to WheyHey, or protein snacks. It applies to all foods in general. There isn’t a food, to my knowledge, that makes you lose weight. People will see these healthy snacks and assume that it magically makes them lose weight. ARRRGH! No! Just NO! If eating made you lose weight, no one would be fat.

What WheyHey offers is a high protein, lower carb, lower fat, and healthier ingredient profile than a regular ice cream. Its ingredients and nutritional profile means that it can be enjoyed by someone looking to lose weight, without feeling guilty about eating it. It doesn’t have to be thought of as a ‘cheat food’, as it doesn’t eat up a large amount of your caloric intake with empty calories. Weight loss happens when you eat the right foods, with a calorie controlled diet, and regular exercise. If you’re reading this WheyHey Ice Cream review, chances are you already know this, but I just wanted to throw it out there because of this stupid article from the Daily Mail.

It goes out of its way to mention that “but experts say you still need to hit the gym to slim”… no shit Sherlock! As far as im aware, this is obvious, and WheyHey isn’t marketed as a weight loss product. It’s marketed as a high protein ice cream. BUT, im glad the Daily Mail has pointed this out to us.

The Skinny On WheyHey Ice Cream – Whey Or Nay?

Whey Hey Ice CreamIf you’re a fan of ice cream, I can give a conclusive WHEY! Which is my whitty word play of saying yay, or ‘yes’. If you’re not that hot on ice cream to begin with, then this won’t convert you. And if you don’t like ice cream anyway, its unlikely you’d be looking to buy a protein ice cream.

If you do enjoy ice cream, or suffer from a sweet tooth, but don’t want to pile your diet full of calories from fat and sugars, then WheyHey should be stocked in your freezer. Likewise if you’re someone looking for a new protein supplement or protein snack, then you owe it to yourself to try this. Sometimes, even a so called ‘healthy’ protein snack makes me suffer in terms of having to cut calories elsewhere in my diet to allow it to fit my macros. Sometimes these snacks feel me leaving starving and I regret eating this so called ‘healthy’ food.

I don’t think like that about WheyHey. Because it contains a high protein content, from a high quality source (whey protein isolate), along with low carbs and low fat. Its a genuine ‘regular’ ice cream taste, without the regular empty calories.

I hope this WheyHey Ice Cream review has helped you out if you’re on the fence about trying it.
