Summary:

Impact Whey Protein Powder offers the best value for money protein powder on the market. This protein concentrate powder embarasses competitors in both quality and price. Packing 20g of protein per serving, for just £0.23 per serving, this budget protein powder leads the way and is a must have for any weight lifter.

I wanted to update my Impact Whey Protein Review, as I first used this when I was a teenager back in 2007.

At the time, Myprotein was the only ‘bulk’ no frills protein retailer. They were so much cheaper compared to the other brands that were available at the time.

As a college student, I didn’t have much money. I was serious about the gym and bodybuilding, but didn’t want to be ripped off.

Bodybuilding magazines would advertise protein powders next to Mr Olympia and champion bodybuilders to try and get my money.

I had no clue what protein supplements were good or bad.

If you’re in this same position – I can relate.

Before I spent ANY money on supplements – I spent ALOT of time researching;

  • If I actually needed protein powder
  • What made a protein powder good or bad
  • If Impact Whey was any good

Fast forward to 2022, and the supplement industry has exploded. There is so much more choice when it comes to protein powders and supplements.

It can be quite hard to figure out what protein powder you should use (and if you even need it).

So if you’re stuck wondering what protein powder to use, and if Impact Whey is worth it – learn from my Experiences.

I still use Myprotein to this day. That’s over 15 years.

Impact Whey is reviewed really well on Myprotein’s website, with a a score of 4.6/5 from over 21,000 customer reviews.

So I thought it would be worth while updating my Impact Whey Protein Review, to help you decide if you should use it.

But why should you listen to me?

I’m a competitive bodybuilder. I’ve trained for over 15 years. I’ve helped bodybuilders prep for shows, and helped Mom’s looking to lose baby weight.

In this article I’ll give my honest review of Impact Whey and cover;

  • What Impact Whey Is (and if it can help you build muscle or aid weight loss)
  • If you need to use a protein protein powder
  • If Impact Whey is any good
  • Does Impact Whey make you fat
  • How to use Impact Whey Protein Powder
  • If you should use it

What is Impact Whey Protein

Impact Whey is a whey protein supplement that contains 21grams of protein per serving. It can be mixed with water or milk to drink as a protein shake, or be added to porridge to make protein oats.

Whey protein is a fast absorbing protein powder and is most commonly used as an easy, quick and convenient way to increase your protein intake.

People often think that only bodybuilders or athletes can benefit from a protein supplement. This is not true.

I am a competitive bodybuilder, so my protein requirements are higher than a “regular” person – because my lifestyle involves a lot of intense weight lifting, with the goal to build muscle. As such I require more protein so that my muscles can recover.

Protein is necessary to maintain muscle mass, not just build it. So even if you’re not a bodybuilder, you should be aiming to have 0.8g of protein per lb of bodyweight – just to maintain general health.

I use Impact Whey as a convenient way to help me hit my protein intake for the day. It’s cheap, it mixes well and most flavours taste (at least) “ok”.

When prepping for a bodybuilding show, I stop using Impact Whey and used Impact Whey Isolate instead.

Read on to find out why.

What is Impact Whey Made From

Impact whey is a whey protein concentrate supplement. It is derived from the cheesemaking process, with enzymes being added throughout this process, to separate the curd from the liquid whey.

The end result is a whey protein concentrate, which is 80% protein content. The other 20% is a mixture of carbohydrates and fats.

Whey protein concentrates are the cheapest form of whey protein.

There are 3 kinds of whey protein, with each offering a different level of bioavailability and absorption rate.

  1. Whey protein concentrate
  2. Whey protein isolate
  3. Hydrolysed whey protein.

These undergo further refinement, to reduce the carbohydrate and fat content.

Impact Whey Protein is a whey protein concentrate.

Myprotein Impact Whey ReviewWhey protein concentrate offers the best bang for your buck, with an average industry standard of 80% protein content, the rest of the supplement content being made up of lactose, other carbohydrates and fat.

This means for every 100g of protein powder, you’ll be getting 80 grams of protein. Myprotein Impact Whey boasts protein content levels of 82%, higher than the industry average.

What does Impact Whey Do

Impact Whey Protein provides you with a convenient 21grams of high-quality protein per serving. This contributes to the growth and maintenance of muscle mass — making sure you get the protein you need, each and every day, in an affordable way.

Impact Whey will not magically make you gain muscle. And if you’re a female worried about “bulking up” – dont. That’s not how protein supplements work.

The best way to think of Impact Whey, or any protein powder – is as a food (they are called food supplements after all).

In order to gain muscle, you need to train hard lifting weights in the gym, and make sure you are eating more calories than you’re burning (making sure you are eating at least 1gram of protein per lb of body weight.

Myprotein’s Impact Whey is a cost effective way to help you get enough protein. Either by consuming it as a protein shake, using it to make protein porridge, or as an ingredient to bake protein snacks.

Is Impact Whey protein good for weight gain?

Impact whey can help you to gain weight – but will not cause weight gain unless you are consuming multiple servings a day that will make you exceed your overall daily caloric needs (causing a calorie surplus).

In order to gain weight you need to create a calorie surplus. This is when the amount of calories you consume is more than what your body needs to maintain its current weight. You can use this calculator from Myfitnesspal to figure our your caloric needs.

When you know how many calories you need to gain weight, you can add a protein supplement like Impact Whey to help you consume enough calories and protein to result in weight gain.

Whats the difference between Impact Whey and Impact Whey Isolate?

Impact Whey is a whey protein concentrate – containing 80% protein. Impact Whey isolate has a protein content greater than 90%. Isolate has lower lactose content than whey concentrate. What is the difference in fat content between Impact Whey Protein and Impact Whey Isolate? Per 25g, Impact Whey contains 1.9g of fat, while Impact Whey Isolate contains 0.1g.

Impact Whey Protein vs Impact Whey Isolate

I mentioned above that I stop using Impact Whey when prepping for a bodybuilding show, and use Impact Whey Isolate instead.

I do this because Isolate has less carbs and fat than Impact Whey. You can find out more about why I switch to isolate in my Impact Whey Isolate Review.

That’s it.

The nutritional profile is better, when im trying to keep my overall calorie intake low, but my protein high.

If I didn’t compete as a bodybuilder, I would just stick with Impact Whey as it offers better value for money.

How to use Impact Whey Protein

The best way to use Impact Whey Protein is mixing it with water or milk and drinking it as a protein shake. I typically mix Impact Whey Protein with water, createine and a carbohydrate powder and drink it as a post workout shake.

You can drink Impact Whey Protein any time of the day, in between meals or as a meal replacement.

You can also add impact whey to porridge to make protein oats.

Impact whey can also be used as an ingredient for protein baking recipes.

How many Impact Whey shakes a day?

Myprotein recommend consuming 2-3 Impact Whey shakes a day. I’d agree with this, as I typically will have 2 shakes a day, in between whole food meals.

There is no set number on how many Impact Whey shakes a day you should have, however it is a food supplement, not food. So aslong as you are consuming whole foods, and adding shakes to supplement your diet, you’ll be good.

Taste, Texture & Mixability

Myprotein Impact Whey Review

Now impact Whey comes in a huge host of flavours, Myprotein offers this supplement in over 50 different favlours at the time of writing, including unflavoured.

During personal usage, and writing supplement reviews,  I’ve tried many of these flavours out, my favourites being chocolate orange, chocolate mint, cookies & cream and banoffee. Staples such as strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate are fantastic to.

This being said i’ve never had a flavour ive not enjoyed, and even the unflavoured option tastes fine. By no mean’s is it the nicest, but unflavoured impact whey offers the cheapest option, and gives the cheapest supplement option on the market, and the best value for money protein powder available.

Unflavoured Impact Whey tastes like powdered milk. It doesn’t really have a ‘taste’ as such. However, if i had to describe it, powdered milk would be the best comparable taste.

Post workout I always mix this water and drink it, however any other time through the day i’ll have it with milk.

The texture depends on how much liquid you add to the protein powder. I like my protein shakes quite thick, and even when you’re mixing impact whey protein with water, you still get that awesome, creamy, thick milkshake consistency.

Occasionally the powder can clump, however if you mix it well enough in a shaker this is never a problem. The only time i’ve noticed it clumping is if i haven’t shuck it hard enough or for long enough (that’s what she said).

Best Value For Money Protein Powder

I’ve mentioned this a few times in this Myprotein Impact Whey Protein Review, but this protein powder truly does offer the best value for money protein supplement available. At the time of writing a 5kg bag of unflavoured Impact Whey Protein costs just £46.79.

That means that per serving, Myprotein Impact Whey Protein is going to cost you about 23p a serving. Using a Myprotein Discount Code means you can get this protein powder for even cheaper than £0.23 a serving!

Effectiveness & Verdict

Don’t expect to take Impact Whey and gain 10lbs of muscle and shred 30 lbs of fat in a month. If you think that then GTFO of here.

Seriously though, none of the supplements from my protein, no fat burner, no pre workout, no sports nutrition supplement is going to give you these types of gains.

Supplements are there to supplement your diet and aid you’re hard work in the gym and your dedication to dieting to get great results.

Im naming Impact Whey the best budget protein powder available in the UK. MyProtein’s Impact Whey will perform better than other budget protein powders, as the quality is second to none, as can be seen by the nutritional profile above.

With minimal amounts of fat & carbs for a protein concentrate, an 82% protein content, and a strong amino acid profile, Impact Whey Protein Powder delivers for a budget protein powder.

Final Word

When I was a University Student, bodybuilding on a budget, whey protein concentrate was my number 1 choice for whey protein powder. It contains everything you need to use pre workout, post workout, or as a meal replacement for the right price.

As Myprotein.co.uk has expanded, its range of flavours could now be mistaken for an ice cream parlor menu, and the price has actually been driven down. For anyone looking for the best budget protein powder, there is only 1 choice in my opinion, and that is Impact Whey.
