These are the cheap foods to gain weight that you’ll need to use to make my cheap home made weight gain shake.

I’ve recommended impact whey as the best budget whey protein. All the big online UK supplement retailers discount their protein, but I’ve found Myprotein’s Impact Whey to be cheapest consistently.
Myprotein is cheap in price, but it’s not cheap quality. Their whey is absolutely spot on, which is why I rate it so highly. It contains 80% protein content, which is bang on for a whey concentrate.
Per 25g serving it gives 21g of protein, and if you buy a 5kg bag of unflavoured it means each scoop is about £0.23.

Porridge oats are an essential for making your own cheap weight gainers. Oats are one of the best, cheap, high calorie foods for gaining weight, as they’re so easy to blend into a shake and drink.
Look at any weight gain supplement on the market, I can guarantee that oats, ground oats, or oat powder will be one of the main ingredients.
I used to eat a ton of porridge, but found that sometimes id have to force feed myself to get them down.
Its one of the staple cheap ways to gain weight for any bodybuilder, so adding it to my shakes at home would mean I could make a cheap weight gainer.
You don’t need to get fancy with your porridge oats. Don’t overpay for ground oats from the supplement retailers, and don’t buy protein porridge – it’s a rip off. You can make your own protein porridge for much cheaper.
Just a bag of value oats from any supermarket will do.
Peanut butter is one of the best cheap high calories foods for gaining weight. Its packed full of healthy fats, and has a good amount of protein in it.
You wont find this in pre-made ready to buy cheap weight gainers. So when you’re looking to make cheap high calorie shakes at home, peanut butter is one of the best ingredients you can pick as it is so calorie dense.

Its RRP is £5.99 for 1kg. Far cheaper than what you’ll find in the supermarkets buying smaller tubs.

Per 100g you’re getting 46g fat, 30g protein and 12g of carbs. There’s no sugar added, additives or any other crap. Just pure peanutty goodness.
It’s such a cheap food to gain weight due to the high caloric density, and is so easy to blend into a home made weight gainer shake.
Banana’s are always a good cheap carb source. You can pick them up for pennies. They blend so easy, and add taste to your shake.
Banana’s are packed with potassium, vitamins and minerals, and provide around 25g of carbs (per average sized banana)
A a top tip – freeze your bananas. Ok peel the skin off first, then freeze them. They’ll make your shake colder, and thicker. Perfect if you prefer a smoothie style texture.
Bananas aren’t a necessity when making your own cheap home made weight gainer, but I do like to include them in my recipe.
You can add any extra ingredients you like to your home made shake, but it will drive the cost up.
For the liquid, the cheapest option is water. However you can add in full fat milk, almond milk, or whatever else you’d like. Milk isn’t too expensive, but water is free. My cheap weight gainer will taste nicer with milk, and if you use full fat milk, its an easy way to drive the calorie count up.
You can substitute banana’s with any fruit of your choice. Supermarkets sell frozen “smoothie blends” ready for you to to blend into your shake.
You can swap peanut butter for a different kind of nut butter such as cashew or almond, but peanut butter is the cheapest option you’ll find.
If you’re looking outside the box, and want to add more than cheap foods to gain weight to your own shake, then you can add additional supplements to make the best cheap weight gainer yourself.
I’d recommend creatine monohydrate, and if you’re looking for additional carbs that will add some sweetness to your shake, then dextrose is a must.
If you’re budget is tight thought, and you’re looking for the absolute cheapest weight gainer shake, then ditch the extras, and just use the cheap high calorie foods i’ve mentioned above.
My 1000 Calorie Shake Recipe
- Pour 500 ml of liquid into your blender (For the cheapest option use water. For the higher calorie version use milk)
- Add 2 scoops of protein powder into the liquid
- Add 100g of oats to the blender
- Add 50g of peanut butter to the blender
- Add a banana to blender
- Fasten the list, and begin to blend.
- Continue blending until a shake consistency has been created. (You may need to stop blending, and stir with a spoon or knife, then continue to blend)
- Drink from the blender bottle, or pour into a shaker and drink.

How to Use Weight Gainers
Anyone can drink a shake. My mates go out on the piss every weekend and nock back vodka redbulls and pints like theres a drought. If they can do that, you can drink a homemade weight gainer.

They taste nicest when drank once freshly blended. However when I was at University, I would make a batch of my weight gainer on a night. Pour it into a shaker bottle and place it in the fridge overnight.
I’d then pack my weight gainer shake in my bag, and drink it as a meal replacement through the day.
